Very sorry for the long absence. Rereading the last post, I was a bit shocked at how miserable that made my situation sound. I shouldn't have left that up there so long. I may have been quite frustrated that day, but I AM IN FACT DOING SPLENDIDLY. I'm currently in Los Angeles, California for two weeks. I've eaten nearly 800 tacos. Yesterday we shot guns
. Before that I was in Portland for a week. I've never been to either, and decided to visit when Jason had some obligations over here.
As for the site... we are actually testing a new version Sean recently completed and will make the transfer once we're done. It looks the same, but the site will now be on a much stabler, more secure framework. Once that is done, it will be much easier to pinpoint inefficiencies in the database...which is the constant source of the site troubles.
I've been spending my own time creating a new version of Happy Wheels from scratch. At least, I assume it will be Happy Wheels. I'm learning c++ and opengl. It is fun to have something new and challenging, so I'm pumped to have something showable soon. I promise it will be awesome (if you liked Happy Wheels and my judgement hasn't expired). The plan is to sell a version of the game for $5-10. I think this will eliminate a lot of horrible levels from being created. I'd still like everyone to have access to the game though, so I will see about the possibility of releasing a free version eventually that doesn't include the level editor. Perhaps that could be in webgl. This is all very far off and just speculation.
Probably the most exciting part of this news post for myself is that I will have a booth at PAX East next March in Boston. I actually can't wait, but I suppose I am forced to. I missed my chance to do this several times before due to stupidity. It will be wonderful to leave my mother's locked basement and meet anyone who has played Happy Wheels (as this is actually very rare in real life). Just please, NO DIRECT SKIN CONTACT. Latex gloves will be available.

Only kids don't want to pay.
It's quite a good strategy by Jim, since people who make good levels are usually older than 15. Kids, meanwhile, make really UNORIGINAL LEVELS like Ball Throw or Knife Throw. We are getting really tired of that.
Besides, its only a couple of bucks. Does the world end if you have to pay $10 to get this game? Thats only about as much as you could get a week for your allowance, kids.
By Grayscale on Nov. 22nd, 2012 03:18AM
I say paying for the full version of Happy Wheels (for a small price, the suggested 5$ sounds good) is a GREAT idea. It could be something like the demo posted on other flash-game websites, but with all the levels (restricted, of course, to the first 3 characters).
Putting HW up on Steam sounds great too.
I don't use the map editor, but maybe you could make the level maker available...without having the option to upload it. Boom, tons of the sh*tty levels kids make are now inexistent.

If you are going to make people pay after so many months of freeness, you have to watch out for the haters. I, personally, don't want to spend $5-$10
for a 2d platformer. I mean, think of how many people wouldn't buy it if it was $10. Probably 3/4 of all the players. Now think of what if would be like for $5. Still half. But what about $2? People can do that, and really, if you have 3/4 million people buying a game for $2, thats a lot of money.
By ms63129 on Nov. 22nd, 2012 2:46PM
@11770 - I see at least several a day, including the levels that say to stop making them (and now even levels saying "stop making "stop this levels""...). Although I mostly play levels sorted by newest, but they do come up in the highly rated levels as well. In fact, at the very moment when sorting by rating over the past week, there is a level called "STOP" (stop making bad levels in general, but these and other "complaining" levels are just as bad if not worse).

Dafaq'? Payin' for an online web flash game? What is this the black-net? It's like Im paying to play Potty-Racers 2 on addictinggames.com. Please don't do this... If you really wanna earn some cash create your own game with the new C+++ programing... Don't make us pay for an online flash game. You could make way more money if you created your own game.I would pay for it if only right now happy wheel's had more content in it but that's far from now. Such as comments, multiplayer, more advanced level's and level editor, and happy wheels dosent have none of these important factor's and you want me to pay 10 dollar's for it? Hell look like paying 10 dollar's for an online flash game. I mean it's a hell of a fun game but no... I am not and will not pay for Happy Wheel's. It's not even accessable anywhere. and im preety sure alot of people think the same.

By CarnivorousX on Nov. 23rd, 2012 01:09AM
i must say, buying this game??? no thank you. i really never played this as often until recently. maybe you should set a spam or report button that could check the level and possibly ban those people. and seriously, make a character creator. it will make characters that u can save, and use privately. and for all the super amazingly popular creators having the super good stuff in their editor is unfair. many of us have crazy good potential and we NEED those things. or make tutorials for cars, rollercoasters, and robots. that would make many people happy!
who else agrees??
By Bert on Nov. 23rd, 2012 03:07AM
@CarnivorousX, that doesn't make sense, every level maker has the exact same tools to work with, you too could make 'super good stuff' in the level editor...
Custom characters won't be added, it doesn't work, if you use it 'privately', how will others view replays you make if you used that character?
Why do most users think they're paying for a Flash game? Don't they realise he's going to make you pay for the C++ version?

He may never even make an online-pay-for version! He can't even make the site run properly, and if he did make an online version, how long would it take to let him learn the coding, input all the new characters I'm sure it would possibly come with, and enable connecting to TJF. If anything, he's going to fix the site. Fucking read, people! He probably won't even charge anything. AND YOU WONT HAVE TO BUY THE GAME. YOU CAN STILL FUCKING PLAY IT ON THIS WEBSITE.
He said he was creating a NEW version of Happy Wheels. It's a different version of this game. DIFFERENT. Goddamn.

By Mystic on Nov. 23rd, 2012 2:36PM
Seeing these kids rage actually makes me kinda happy. Looking at their profiles I can see they are some of the roots of the cancer of the community and if they don't buy the game then the community will actually be healing rather than dying.
Also C++ version will include tons of new cool things that were never available in the flash version. C++ is a much more capable programming language and runs on your memory instead of the flash player. Most 3D games and programs on your computer are written in it, so expect good stuff!

@meztruo/xXSUPERNOVAXx: You guys are totally retarded! Kids can't buy this game, it's too bloody and gory for them! If there was a payable version of this game RIGHT NOW, the rating would be for an older audience. And you're both insulting Jim Bonacci? You both have equally improper grammar, and you have both called him a greedy bastard, so I'm assuming you two are the exact same person.
Imagine...Whothehell Whatsisface hiding under another account to agree with himself. That would've been freakin' hilarious...and also dumb. You guys, if you're even two different people, are complete fools and should get off the Internet because you fail. Jim Bonacci is great, I even enjoy his Happy Green Hills level. It's lots of fun, you get to go around the place and all that other stuff.
Anyways, back to the topic! You two are complete morons, you seriously need to get your heads checked. If you guys want to complain about something, too freakin' bad! Just keep it to yourself and you'll be fine, so nobody will rage at you. But you should've learned that BEFORE posting those comments...

JIM! NO! BAD JIM! DON'T LET US PAY FOR CREATING LEVELS!IT'S NOT ENTIRELY OUR FAULT THAT OUR LEVELS SUCK! PLEASE! NO! COME ON JIM! THIS GAME BEING AWESOME AND FREE IS WHAT MADE IT SUCH A SUCCESS! IF YOU MAKE US PAY, I WILL FIND YOU AND KILL YOU. JUST KIDDING. BUT SERIOUSLY, DON'T MAKE US PAY!
By Hezze on Nov. 24th, 2012 07:06AM
Yes, C++ would be a better programing language for Happy Wheels than Flash. (I think)
By doolie on Nov. 24th, 2012 10:15AM
Yeah I'm just a cheap bastard so I like getting stuff for free lol, but when I consider I've actually gotten more entertainment from HW than games I've spent $60 plus tax on, $10 really is an insignificant amount to pay. Plus I'd rather support Jim than the makers of Call of Duty, he certainly needs and deserves it more.
By MYMOM234 on Nov. 24th, 2012 10:18AM
I released my level today. GO play it.
C++ will be alot better for HW.
By dougrattmann on Nov. 24th, 2012 10:48AM
It's a very good idea to make us pay to use the editor, but not for the game. It would stop the amount of shit maps being made. Although, you could just add a better report level feature, like a few people have already said. But, honestly, it would just be better to make us pay for the level editor. Think about it like this: even with a flag/report feature, there will still be tons of shit levels, and they would stay unless somebody reports it. So make us pay for the level editor, not the game itself. Only problem with paying for the level editor is that there would not be a very constant stream of levels unless a good number of good map makers actually paid for it..

By Merlin the Wizard on Nov. 24th, 2012 4:54PM
Yeah, everybody just be quiet and let Jim do his thing. It's a WONDERFUL idea to get people to pay. A bunch of crying 7 year olds can't change his mind.
By Bert on Nov. 24th, 2012 8:45PM
@philippinefury, it appears your caps lock key is stuck on, also, how is it Jim's fault you make bad levels? Does he control you or something? Looking at your levels, it's not because of Jim, it's because you keep taking mainstream ideas and making them yourself, obviously showing no use of creativity...
@haloking123, do you really think TJF would earn millions of dollars a month? That's just silly, there's lots of silly fillies here... If Jim earned millions a month, of course he would fix up the site, truth is, a site like this would earn something in the $1000 range, not millions. One more thing - you're calling Jim lazy? Jim designed this site and spent years on Happy Wheels, and is re-doing Happy Wheels in C++, and you're calling him lazy? It's mean, and I don't get how you could call him lazy... If you want the site fixed, you're more than welcome to buy the game when it comes out, if you want...

Bert... "silly fillies..." Your pony terminology scares me. But I have been show the ways of the brony... I am becoming one of you...
By caferreri22 on Nov. 24th, 2012 10:26PM
I agree, having to buy Happy Wheel's sucks. Yes, most of the game's success came from it being free, but at the same time that allowed a bunch of people who have ruined the game completely, most of which are probably too young to be playing the game anyway.
There are hardly ANY good levels these days. The five-star rating system is useless. Having a five-star level means nothing now.
Although, I think rather than paying for the entire thing, maybe there should just be something of a Premium Membership.
If Plying for free, you'd have access to all the levels, but you could only use the original five characters (Wheelchair Guy, Segway guy, Irresponsible Dad/Son, The fat chick in the scooter thing, Moped Couple) and would not be able to access the Level creator.
No wait, better idea. Free members would have access to the level creator, but would not be able to publish a thing. In addition, features such as the poly and trigger tool would be unusable. Maybe they're could even be a few Premium weapons or fun stuff.
If you have the Premium sub, you'd get access to everything in the game, as well as the ability to post in the forum.

First off, learn to correctly structure a sentence. That was painful to read. Moreover, what makes you think Jim is making millions of dollars and spending it on himself? All I've seen Jim do is strive to make this site stand on its own two feet, and make Happy Wheels a better game. Jim isn't lazy, he's just overwhelmed with overbearing traffic. Have you bothered to even view the Alexa rating for totaljerkface? One guy trying to keep the 5952nd biggest site in the world(yes, it's that big) running off of a few donations is pretty hard. I would love to see how you would handle that. Jim isn't making anybody pay for anything, people donate because they love the game. Go ahead and doubt Jim all you want haloking, but you'd never be able to run this site, nor will you EVER be as successful as Jim.
By Hezze on Nov. 25th, 2012 02:41AM

I live in Indonesia,1.000 Rupiah is like a dollar, but A dollar is 9.000 Rupiah. So If its 10$,x 9.000 Rupiah,it would be 90.000 Rupiah, like a 90$. And theres veeery few credit cards appropriate for internet buying,so yeh. Sucks eh?

put it on steam and maybe add multiplayer like have a lobby of 2-3 players and see who could complete the level first second and third and when everybody gets to victory it shows who is first second and third. Also when someone picks the same character as someone else the color of there clothes change as example segway guy's suit is blue someone picks him and the other person picks the same the second suit should be white and the third suit should be black.

5-10$ is cheap as hell- I've been here since 2010, the good times when there was a new level like every 20 minutes to 1 hour and almost each of them was somehow playable..
Now all I can get to play are ball throw, pewdiepie quiz, glitch level and other shit..
Supporting your idea, Jim. I would really be into playing good levels again rather than finding one-two rarely per a day.

Dont make a paid version... the reason you think levels are horrible are because people arent good at it and even if it were paid people could make bad levels if you paid for it. It would be better if there was a more soficticated flag level system or get a team of moderators to check if the level isnt a troll

No problem. I'm actually 22. I totally understand. So many kids these days just don't know how to take criticism. You give them one little bit of advice and they start swearing and using racial slurs they themselves probably don't know the real meaning of. If your lucky, you might even get a hollow death threat.
I'm not like that. I appreciate it when people point out my stupid moments, it helps me learn to not make the same mistake in the future.
I did play a few of your levels too. The Pikmin one was really fun, as was the BMX bike one. I forget what it's called. I tried to look it up, but Happy Wheels is going 404 on me again. I'm about ready to smack that 404 puppy. LOL
